2011 Young Scholars Program

2011 Program Highlights:

The 2011 Young Scholars Program concluded on July 8, 2011. Thirty-six students worked at the Athens campus, thirty-two students worked in Griffin, and 14 researched at the Tifton campus, making the total number of Young Scholars equal to 82 for the 2011 Young Scholars Program. Among the 3 campuses, 14 students were graduated seniors. They will attend a variety of colleges. We are proud to have 7 coming to UGA, 5 of which will be in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

The Young Scholars participants from the Athens campus visited several sites during the summer. They visited several locations at UGA, including the the Horticulture Trial Gardens, the Bioconversion Research & Education Center, the Poultry Research Complex, the ADS Teaching Diary, and the Sanford Stadium Sky Box Suites.

Participants in Griffin came to Athens to visit the Stegeman Coliseum, Entomology Department, the Horticulture Trial Gardens, and the Poultry Research Complex.

Tifton group picSeventy-three mentors enabled students to work in their labs this summer. Thirty-three mentors worked at the Athens campus, twenty-six at Griffin, and 14 at Tifton.
